Floorball was played in the Special Olympics for the first time in 2017 with Czech Republic taking home the gold medal in Austria. Floorball is now an official sport in Special Olympics. Four teams from North America will compete at the next Special Olympics Winter Games, a huge event for floorball history.
Floorball was a demonstration sport at the 2013 Special Olympics World Winter Games in Korea. It was also part of the World Winter Games in Austria in 2017. Other sports during the event are Alpine skiing, Cross country skiing, Figure skating, Snowboarding, Snowshoeing, & Speed skating.

Floorball first participated at TWG in Lahti in 1997 as an invitational sport, however, in Wroclaw in 2017, Floorball will be an official medal sport for the first time. At TWG 2017, the Floorball competition was held over 4 days, from 27th – 30th July, and involved 6 men´s teams divided into two groups of 3.
